Hair transplant surgery is a procedure that involves moving hair follicles from one part of the body (the donor site) to a balding or thinning area (the recipient site), typically the scalp. It is commonly used to treat male pattern baldness.
Two main techniques are used in hair transplant surgery:
- Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT): Also known as strip surgery, this technique involves removing a strip of scalp from the donor area and then dissecting it into individual follicular units for transplantation.
- Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE): In this technique, individual follicular units are extracted directly from the donor area using a small punch tool and then transplanted to the recipient area.
Who is the Hair Transplant recommended for?
Suitable candidates for hair transplant surgery are individuals with:
1. Male or female pattern baldness
2. Hair loss due to injury or surgery
3. Hair loss from burns or other scalp injuries
4. Good overall health
5. Realistic expectations about the results
During the procedure, you will be given local anesthesia to numb the donor and recipient areas. The surgeon will then remove the hair follicles from the donor area and transplant them to the recipient area. The length of the procedure depends on the number of grafts being transplanted.
It can take several months to see the full results of hair transplant surgery. Initially, the transplanted hair may fall out, but new hair should start to grow in its place within a few months. The final results may take up to a year to fully develop.
The results of hair transplant surgery are usually permanent. Once the transplanted hair follicles take root, they should continue to grow hair for the rest of your life. However, it's important to note that hair loss may continue in other areas of the scalp not treated with the surgery.
What are the benefits of the Hair Transplant?
The Hair Transplant offers several benefits, including:
Is there any downtime associated with the Hair Transplant?
After the surgery, you may need to wear bandages on your scalp for a few days. You may also experience some swelling and bruising, which will subside over time. Most people can return to work and normal activities within a few days to a week after the procedure.
Is the Hair Transplant safe for all skin types?
You may experience some discomfort during the procedure, but local anesthesia is used to minimize pain. After the surgery, you may experience some soreness and swelling, which can be managed with pain medication prescribed by your surgeon.
